Tradesperson's Electrical Course

The Course
Our Tradesperson’s Electrical Course is a two week comprehensive blended learning programme.

You will be guided from complete beginner to a level of understanding which is comparable to many domestic electricians and be able to carry out any electrical work within the domestic environment.

The course is specifically designed for people with little or no prior electrical experience and its aim is to provide you with the theoretical understanding and practical skills required to work in a safe and responsible manner. It is structured in a way that dismisses the need to employ an electrician to perform electrical tasks on jobs that you are undertaking, saving you money and adding to the scope of work that you can undertake.

The course gives you the qualifications that will allow you to work on all fixed installations connected after the supplier's meter in buildings or parts of buildings.
These areas include:

  • Electrical work in dwellings
    (houses, flats, apartments etc)
i.e. re-wires, installation of kitchen lighting,
    power showers, moving sockets.

  • Combined dwellings and business premises having a common supply (such as shops,
    pubs etc)

  • Common access areas in blocks of flats
    (but not lifts)

  • Shared amenities in blocks of flats
    (such as laundries, gymnasiums etc)

  • Outbuildings, including sheds, garages
    and greenhouses

  • Garden lighting and power supplies
    (including spas, security lighting etc)

  • Parts of fixed electrical installations external
to premises, such as in gardens,
    (sheds, detached garages etc)

  • Extensions and loft conversions (The safety requirement will be applicable to alterations and additions to existing installations, including rewires, as well as to the new construction.
This requirement for consequential remedial work is a departure from the normal Building Regulations approach.)

Programme Details
The practical sessions are broken down into 2 week
long blocks. During the practical sessions you will put into practice what you have been instructed on in the theory modules and actually see the end result of your hard work.

During the course you will learn a wide variety of things, anything from using various tools to rewiring a house and, ultimately, you will be given all the skills you need to work successfully and be able to confidently work with electrical installations.

After qualifying you will be able to safely install
and certify the full range of domestic electrical work, including:

  • House Re-wires

  • Installing Ring Mains (Sockets, Fuse Spurs etc)

  • Installing Radial Circuits (Showers etc)

  • Installing Lighting Circuits
    (in kitchens, bathrooms, etc)

  • Exchange or Update Consumer Units
